I just re-discovered this incredible book I had all but forgotten about. It's called "Motion Picture and Video Lighting" by Blain Brown. If you want to know all the ins and outs of lighting this is one of the books to have. It takes you all the way from the names of various kinds of lights, to several different ways to light a face all the way to lighting different kinds of scenes.

The dvd is super helpful as well. Here's an excerpt where they light a scene 7 different ways.
