youtube vs dailymotion

I am currently using youtube to broadcast my videos but I also see dailymotion and when I go on there looking for shorts I see great things rather than youtube which has a mixed bag. Would it be better to start on dailymotion or does it not have a good popularity that its useless or should I just stay on youtube and open both ?

I don't watch videos on dailymotion so I don't put my films up there. Vimeo is great though if you don't want your shorts showing up in the same searches with cat videos. It's got better quality than youtube as well. Only downside is that it inexplicably doesn't play properly on some folks' computers.

Indeed: there is a trade-off between accessability and quality.
I mainly use YouTube, because of the viewers potential en search engine. But I must admit most my projects are corporate, so my clients need the access and SEO more than the slightly better image quality.

But I must say Vimeo plays a lot smoother now than a year ago.

I think that marketing (and this IS marketing) should always take a shotgun approach.

Each of those sites will obviously cater to a different audience (case in point, Vimeo is filled to the brim with film makers) but in the end, if you're going for pure number of hits, I would always release to every platform.

Cross-link each of them so that if someone sees it on YouTube and wants a better quality version, they can shoot over to the Vimeo site and vice-versa.

Open accounts on YouTube, DailMotion, Vimeo, Blip.tv, Veheo and as many places as you can to get you production seen by the widest audience possible.

DailMotion will give you an audience in Europe. YouTube and Vimeo are popular in the USA.

I'm with Mike on this one, the more platforms you can get your vidos on the more people will, hopefully, see it which I think ultimately is any film makers goal (next to making money)

I also think josh-ozirigpro is onto something when he said cross-linking them...excuse me, while I just steal this idea  thanks Josh

I'll expect the cheque in the mail by Monday

The only thing of course, is that you actually have to get people to view it, or it will just sit there.

Speaking from just trying to promote a clip, you really have to push it and get people to view it.

www.fiveminutefilms.com

you should try www.fiveminutefilms.com. its my website, its free, no ads, and supports over 15 different file types. upload up to 100mb file size in HD and if need more just contact me. you can create groups, categories etc. add friends, send and reicieve messeges- check it out!:D

If I had more time I would upload my videos to all the sites (except Vimeo, cuz i tried that and have endless complaints about it.)

The only problem is that you would have to start from scratch in trying to accumulate your views, your followers, etc.... and every other site is used by less people than youtube...
