Why can't you sync audio with 16mm film camera?

I know maybe a dumb question but i was told that most 16mm film cameras cant sync audio. But if i used a marrantz and a me-67 and then use a clapper board to sync the audio in post production surely that would work?.

hi James..
yes you can, but the camera needs to have a Crystal Sync Motor...in your case living in England you will need a 50hz crystal as your standard over there is 25fps...and sound will need to match...

then everything you say is true...head slate everything if you can...if not get a tail slate and you will be fine...

if your camera does not have a crystal sync motor the picture and sound will drift out of sync...or if it is a US camera and has a 60hz motor you will need to use US standards for 24fps...which would be sound at 30fpsTC and camera is 24fps 60hz

hope this helps
