Which picture for a poster?

Hi all. I'm finishing up a short film called Momentum and I'm going to be making a poster based off of one of these two pictures. It'll be more of a minimalist approach, but these are just the pictures in a generalized tone, I suppose. Let me know which one you prefer, it'd help a lot.

what i would do... is mix the two

the pose in the 2nd one is nice... especially regarding the title... is he about to bring his arms down to hit someone? is he hanging there? is he ready to jump?

there is no implication in the images that anyone is important

the first image looks like cheap horror and the second looks like a neighborhood drama

also, i wouldn't use stills for your poster... unless by poster you mean splash image and even then... not the best idea...

I wouldn't use either, if that's what it's about. Neither poster fits your tone or the film's description.
+ 1

Congrads on completing the picture though. :)

As for the poster, you want it to attract viewers and potential buyers. Objectively do you think either of these photos would. I 100% say no they won't. Think it through carefully and re-shot the poster snaps, giving yourself some options.

The issue is that YOU know what the film is about, and the pictures talk to YOU. Your audience knows nothing about the film, so you need something that captures their attention and gives them some idea of what your film is about without giving it all away. This is even harder for indie filmmakers as there is no major industry buzz, no pre-marketing and no big star; and so many films these days are sequels/part of a franchise or based on a NYT best-selling book - or both.

Stepping away from your project and viewing it as a clueless (about the film) audience member is probably the hardest thing to learn as a filmmaker, musician or other artist.

The main focus is a horrible (in a violent way) homicide scene/"terrorist" attack on an important individual.

In what context? As it happens or aftermath? What POV? Neither of your pictures nor the title of the short convey anything about a violent crime. Your "face" isn't a celebrity, so I don't give a rodents anal sphincter about who he is. You need a picture or composite of shots that intrigues the audience, tickles their curiosity.

My two cents.

Looking at the images you first posted, before I read your description, this was my immediate thought:

An indie sci-fi in the vein of Upstream Color or Primer. Especially with the title and the second image.

If you can find images that fit the tone and feel as well as the title then keep to that theme. Perhaps you could make the title have a blur effect, or something similar, that gives the impression of momentum.

You could even take a new photo or photos of the cast while they are in costume as well.
