Wedding Videography and pricing

I've had a quick look at some previous posts about how much one should charge but I thought I should make another post anyway as they won't all together useful....

I've finished year 12 and next year will be more officially offering myself for event videography. The biggest area for this is weddings and I've been slowly looking at pricing around my city by others. But still in the development stage I've already had someone contact me about a quote, sooner than expected. I've filmed weddings in the past and I would get about $20 AUD per hour and upwards depending on who exactly employed me, but I was never doing the editing. While I'm working independently I have others who I can use if needed if the client wants two cameras.

How much should I charge as a basic price, which would be a one camera set up just for the ceremony. Once I've figured out my minimum I'm thinking it'll be easy to work out how much for each bit more, like the reception, setting up, transport, two cameras, three even etc. Despite my age I consider myself relatively experienced with shooting events I've just never been in charge of the business side. (This is where I have my other dilemma as I said in another thread about a camera or a car).

Also I've decided to be as open as I can with my clients about my level of experience and such to avoid disappointment for them (not that I think my work will be disappointing but yeah....)

Thoughts? Also most wedding videographers don't really advertise on their websites their costs which has made it hard to compare

I Charge a fee starting from $600 - $1000 USD for weddings. Different Packages. That's only for one camera. Additional Cameras cost $200 each.

I have the same issue as you, i am young. 21 now, but people don't trust young. I have to say i am better than most in my area, and we're talking about Texas. People still can't trust you. So you will have to start low, to build a portfolio, and get people to trust you. I started off having to scarifice all profit. It was mainly Revenue really.

I am now leaving the wedding and events area because it's simply a hassle.
Here is a website i made that never finished. http://rogyproevents.com

The problem is, alot of people charge a nickle and a dime to film it, with horrible video, horrible equipment and lighting, and most people are fine with paying that and don't care about quality. So us pro shooters are left with crap.

There is a very similar problem in the still photography world. Everybody has a cousin or friend with a camera who offers to shoot pics for free. When the friend/family doesn't pan out, they expect to get a pro shooter for little or nothing. These uninitiated individuals (I'm being nice here) believe that the camera is what creates the images and the photog is just the monkey that holds the thing.
