SHORTFILMTEXAS (SFT): What the HELL is this film about?
MIKE WASHLESKY (MW): This originally was the 5th installment of a series we shot called “Delirium,” which was essentially a hybrid of live stage performance and video. Andy and Leon would stay up for 24 hours straight, and come up with some sort or weird ass conceptual idea that we would then shoot. They would then play the video in front of an audience and then perform very odd improvisational shows. What ever ideas/concepts were generated from the improv, we would then capture in a (using this term very loosely) narrative. It was a unique experience that created some very strange visuals and ideas and afforded us a lot of freedom since it was so far in left field, it was drinking beer in the parking lot with a plastic bag on it’s head.
Originally the whole project was considerably longer with even more characters and over arching storylines, but it just ran too long, and was broken into two shorts, the other titled: “Moving Picture Makers” which went on to win a few awards at some obscure festivals.
This part of the film was based on a friend or theirs, Scott Connolico, who always used the term “puppetsh*t” for some reason and they based the entire narrative around that one singular term. One weird ass word spawned the freakshow before you.
