Want to be a Director, but no one better than me as DOP

Are you planning on doing a lot of camera movement, and focus pulling during the shots? If you keep the camera still, with a deep focus, then you can just watch the actors performances for most of the time. Unless you feel this will bring down the craft of the camera work, for the style you want to go for.

I'm pretty good at judging performance by using camera at the same time thats one of my skills, I honestly would prefer not to have to go on camera and just be solely director.

I focus pull all the time, keeping camera still isnt my style, I guess I need to keep on searching for a good DP and continue to shoot myself/direct or save for a good dp for an important project.

as the title..

are there any feature film directors who have operated the camera mainly while directing?
In my experience, DOP generally lights and sets the camera movement, but they might not operate the camera. I've also had some very competent grips who, after hearing where the light should go, just light it perfectly.

But I strongly, STRONGLY disrecommend operating the camera while directing unless you're operating B camera and just trying to get extra footage. I've done both on an indie movie I was DPing, and suddenly the director "promoted" me as he took up necessary producer reins. It was hell, and the product was nowhere near as good as if I had a DP or even a competent camera op.
