Well, that's pretty dope! I read both the bio and the film deal. Interesting guy and and an interesting proposal. I've bookmarked his page and blogs.

I've always wondered about John Varley; a bunch of his short stories would make very interesting films, although his many of his novels might be a bit too complex to translate well. His novel "Millennium" has brilliant reviews, but the same-titled 1989 movie based upon it has 0.5 tomatoes on Rotten Tomatoes. As Varley fan I'm surprised it was considered that good, although IMDB has it listed at three stars. His science fiction works I consider fascinatingly, compellingly weird; I love his stuff. The Gaea trilogy is a definite favorite of mine. I wonder if he would ever consider a similar deal to what Block is proposing.....
