I watch a lot of true crime tv. ID is one of my favorite networks. So, obviously I enjoy documentaries. "I Survived" is a great show and it's just victims telling their stories. It's absolutely chilling.
When I was a kid I watched Password, The Gong Show and other audience participation TV. Remember Winky Dinks? While I won't watch American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, or even Survivor, I can understand why some people do. The contestants have talents that many don't.
What I don't get is reality life TV. Keeping Up With The Kardashians, The Hilton crap, and all the other shows that showcase useless people's lives.
Which brings me to the "documentaries" Catfish and I'm Still Here. I started FFing Catfish about 15 minutes in. The box made it seem interesting and it wasn't. I'm Still Here would have been better if I didn't know it was a mockumentary. Then I would have sat there and thought "Wow this guy is an asshole".
But, even at that, are viewers so bored with their own lives that they want to see other people's day to day existence? Go scene by scene in either of these two, and what's so interesting? What's so entertaining or enjoyable? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I will never again rent anything that begins with "documentary", and doesn't have some sort of story attached to it.
