A buddy of mine is getting a good couple paychecks coming up and looking to get a camera. I was wandering if this is a good starter camera. We will be shooting shorts, comercials, trailers and what not.

Seems decent, but didn't look at the full specs.

As much manual control as you can get is what you want. Without at least manual focus and exposure, narrative work will be tough. Manual white balance of some flavor is also a plus.

There are a couple of Vixia models that have these things.

Below is a film camera....sort of, well yes it is a camera. OK it was used as a camera.

Do you think someone could take good pictures w/ it ? If you answered YES, you are correct ! Some very impressive photos that are highly sought after were taken with the camera below. Some of the photos taken with that camera sell for big $$ Priced from about $6,000 to $11,000, .. Just google Miroslav Tichy.

My point is, it's not the tool. It's what you do with it that counts. If you master your craft, you will know what you need to create.
