VG 30 gear

I am completely new to camcorders and am looking for some lens advice.

First question is what is a macro lens and what type of situation would I use one in?

Also I need a good wide angle lens so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've been on the sony site and found this lens.

Not sure if its any good but if anyone knows let me know. My budget right now is about 500.

Hi darkkar. A macro lens allows for extreme closeups on small objects, such as insects, coins and flowers.

With respect to lenses, I assume you already have the VG30, but you don't have the 18-200 power zoom - and you want decent E mount lenses that will cost you less than $500CDN?

If that's right, I recommend the Sony 50mm f1.8 lens. You can get one for less than $240CDN on eBay Canada.

If you get the 50mm f1.8, that will leave you with enough to get a wider lens - such as the Sony 16mm f2.8 for less than $200CDN on eBay Canada.

If you don't mind shooting manual, another option would be a Rokinon cine lens for NEX mount. The $509CDN Rokinon 35mm T1.5 cine lens is a little over your budget, but it is the best value for the money.
