update question, security quesiton rendering

I did little more digging. the system I am using CAN record in 1080P I just switched it a few miniutes ago.
the VGA mode (whatever VGA means, anyone?) was set at "1024x768"

A couple questions
-what is 1024x768?

-what is VGA?

-and since my system is capable of 1080P can I render the footage I currently have that is set at the 1024x748 format to 1080p? if so, how can I achieve this?

VGA

1024 x 768 is a resolution, which refers to the amount of color dots or pixels in an image. the higher the amount of pixels, the higher quality the image.

I'm not sure what you are asking about rendering to 1080p, but I will say this:
if your camera recorded at 1024x768 and it's a security camera, it's likely that it's interlaced footage. deinterlacing the footage, rendering it to progressive and then to 1920 x 1080 resolution is going to cause it to lose a lot of detail. you might as well just render at 1024 x 768 (interlaced) because that's going to be the largest image size you'll get without any loss of detail or unnecessary pixel scaling.
