Anyone ever use this format?It makes more sense than super 16 in many ways,it just hasn't seen the popularity,though I'm not sure why.If anyone has experience with ultra 16 I would like to hear your opinion of it.Here is what Cameras Pro says:
The format called "Ultra 16mm" ( 1:80 Aspect Ratio)which, unlike Super 16mm (1:66 Aspect Ratio), expands both directions from the center of the frame. (Super 16mm offsets the image by expanding out to the opposite side of the frame as the sprocket hole.) Because the "Ultra 16mm" image is still centered, you only have to machine the gate and do not have to recenter the lens. Also, most all lenses for 16mm will provide enough coverage for Ultra 16mm, so the lens mount doesn't have to be changed. Best of all, for standard 16mm projection, Ultra 16mm can be printed and projected like normal. The gate will naturally crop to the standard 16mm aspect ratio with everything centered like it should be. However, if you decided to either blow up to 35mm ( 1:85 Aspect Ratio) or tranfer to HD 16:9, then you've got extra information to either side so resolution doesn't suffer when letterboxed
