I know pricing is a tricky area, with various different approaches. I'm wondering if UK-based filmmakers would be prepared to discuss their fee or experiences relating to fees.
My only starting point is from experience employing and being employed in community arts (eg. film-making with groups of young people). An artist's daily rate for this kind of work has floated around the £200 mark for a while now. This is the rate I'm currently using (and adding various constraints) for those with limited budgets - local organisations, charities, arts, etc.
I've sometimes read self-employment advice based around calculating your preferred salary, business costs and how much work you expect to attract, arriving at an hourly/daily rate. I'm not sure I'd be prepared to pay someone on such a self-determined rate (and pay for their quite periods within the fee).
A friend has pointed towards 'industry' rates for camera operators, which doesn't seem to fit what I do and the budgets my clients would have.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
