TV for Gamers/Content Producers - New Website...

I do a show for this new site. GoodGameTV.com. My show is called "The Road to Pro". If you like gaming or TV this site will not disappoint. All they are always looking for new content producers as they are a very young website. Let me know your thoughts...

Looks cool. It's funny, I love games, etc...but...I'm not going to pay for that. I'm way too entertained with the myriad free stuff I can stream from the web.

I used to pay for G4tv, a gaming network with uber high production value that covered so much information and had so many different shows...and then I stopped paying for it. Why would I pay for a show with much lower production value and a lot less variety?

I'm just saying...why?

Good luck.

Its a great point. But it really goes to support these productions, which I think all have pretty high productions values. Our show is shot in 720p. And I think the video player on this site is pretty sick.
But this is the way all video sites will soon be. The AD supported model is dying. I think in 5 years we will be able to subsidize cable with 5-10 subscription sites. Think about what you watch on TV... If I could subscribe to all the channels that all my favorite shows are on for $4/month, I would be spending way less than I do now on TV.

Your show looks fine...the quality isn't bad. But let's not compare your production value to G4tv...they have massive departments of professionals working on a myriad different gaming shows...and quite honestly, it costs around the same as your show does (a few dollars a month).

I'm not saying, 'dude yo shit should be free!' I'm just making a point. Feel free to charge viewers for this content...but in a market saturated with [free] high production content...you have to have a pretty strong product to charge.

Good luck.

Thanks man. I appreciate your thoughts and see where you are coming from. Just looking for some feedback. But I definitely think in a few years the only free content you will be able to get will be user created a'la youtube. It is people like us (the professionals), who will have to charge to make it worth our while to produce such content.
I think when the site grows to about 20 shows it will be worth the $3.99. Especially in a niche like gaming. The viewers will decide, which model will win.

Hey M1chae1, can you send me some links to examples of other places to see the content... Thanks!

Here are a few examples of G4TV stuff online:

These are just a few...they have dozens of different shows, all with television level production value. These clips are from G4TV online...the television show has even more variety.

Online G4TV shows are all free.

Since 2004 G4 has kinda fell off and left true gamer fans out in the cold with not much to watch. They put all their energy into re-runs of cops and lost. X-Play is really the only thing I watch on that channel.

While I agree with you on most points, you keep saying "TV level Production values". We use the same equipment to produce this web show as we do to produce a show for truTV on cable. So I would not undermine the quality of our show... Anyway thanks for all your great tips... and good conversation!

You use the same equipment as G4? You mean camera, editing suite, lighting rigs? You have people on editing, motion graphics, and post effects on the same level of experience and skill?

I am not at all downing the quality of your show, I watched it and examined...but there is quite a difference in production value between your show and G4 shows.

G4's hay day may have come and gone, I don't know, but looking online I see a lot of new content that's quite entertaining and informative.

Listen, I don't want to undermine your show or steal any thunder...so I'll stop comparing.

Keep up the awesome work. I'm a huge gamer (playing Borderlands like crazy now) and I wish you all luck.

No I said I use the same equipment for my show for truTV... the cable channel. Our web show is more of a run and gun documentary than a studio news show. But yes pro camera equipment, multiple final cut stations and a after effects editing suite.
Oh and I heard boderlands was awesome. I am waiting for COD MW2 mostly... You play on Xbox or PS? Whats your gamertag?

I play on PC mostly. But I do own a 360, and play certain games with my wife from time to time.

MW:2 looks great, but I hate the idea of no dedicated servers....I play COD 4 and 5 a lot though.

Sorry, don't mean to side-track the topic.
