Hello
I want to introduce myself first before anything. I am new here and a newbie to film, very first first post however i have been lurking around for a bit. This is by far the best forum on the web regarding film making and everything that goes with it. I have always liked film making just never really ventured into the science of it. I am a former pro wrestler and the last couple of years that i was involved in pro wrestling i seemed to drift more towards the production part of the show ie: filming, making promo videos & entrance videos etc...
I recently had a couple of thoughts of scripts for films that i would like to throw by everyone and ask a question that i was curious about regarding the second idea listed below.
1. of doing a documentary style film about a friend whom was in the Pro Wrestling business all his life ( well all 32 yrs of it),he had worked for the WWE off and on for a few yrs, and is considered the best talent to never make it big (due to politics and drugs) and just a couple of yrs ago committed suicide. the documentary will discuss this persons rise to the WWE,Post WWE,drug use, talk with students, fans and friends/family,interviews,matches.
2. the second idea which is also the basis of my question. This is a true story about what is considered the U.S largest drug scandal involving Police officers. Now this is a very good story and appealing to me as my family was affected by it back in the late 70's when it took place. My question about this is that a book was writen about it nearly 20 yrs ago i have read the book and was wondering about how would one approach doing a movie based on a book,is there any sort of permissions or anything that would be needed by anyone like the author of the book. Also is there any tips to writing a script based on a book. This i would like to work as a film as opposed to a documentary like my other.
Thank you and sorry about such a long post. Glad to be here.
