Troubles writing

This might be in the wrong subforum, and I know I'm not the only one etc etc.

I'm desperately trying to find a good story to develop and write, but it has to be 5minutes. All the stories I have are at least 10 minutes plus. It's so hard to be able to pull of a arc in 5 minutes...

Does anyone have any tips in terms of writing a 5 minute short film?

Commercials are 30 seconds and the best ones tell a big story and can be quite satisfying in terms of conveying emotions, delivering punchlines, creating a sense of mood, etc.

Five minutes is plenty for a decent short. Not sure I can offer any particular tips...

Do you need to write it or are you looking for a decent 5 minute script to shoot? What are your production parameters and limitations? Is this for a class?

I do not need to write it myself, but I'd love to; I feel that I have a lot of good ideas. It's for film class, and it's supposed to be max of 5minutes.

Edit:

Also want to add that it doesn't have to be a narrative, it can also be a documentary. I originally thought doing a documentary on the rat race, but not sure if I could pull that off in 5 minutes.
I'm so frustrated. I'm probably going through the same stuff everyone else is. I just sound like a complaining bastard.

Then time is on your side. You'll be fine.

What I would suggest for the time being is make your list of ideas, all the ones you think would work AND are doable (in terms of production) and then go through it until you find the one that fits this specific assignment -- knowing that you can always make another movie from your list of ideas down the road.

You just need one, for now, that fits the bill.

It'll happen. Give yourself the weekend to brainstorm. :)

Thanks for your reply, I really do appreciate this forum. People take their time to respond and give you decent feedback. I love it.

Personally I've love Stephen King stuff, like thrillers and mystery. I'll have to sit down this weekend. :) Thank you!
