Treatment help

I am currently writing a treatment and project proposal form for a university project. The paperwork has some questions also which need to be filed out. I am unsure of the meaning of one question and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to point out the obvious to a newbie!

The questions is:
What sources inform your work?

Does this mean, where do I get the factual information for the doc? Or does it mean, what other films/docs etc influence me to make this style of documentary?

Thanks in advance for advice

inform also means "animate" or "inspire"
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/inform
so I would take your teacher's question to read "What sources inspire your work?", as in what other films, themes, people in your life, life experiences, newpaper articles, whatever inspired you to come up with your story idea.
