Trailer for my Feature Directorial Debut

Hello,

My name is Shawn Holmes and I'm a filmmaker. I'm brand spankin' new to the forum so I thought It'd be cool to start out by letting everyone know what I'm all about.

Recently I've begun to embark on the daunting task of shooting my first feature film... with a micro-budget.

Shooting this way only works if everyone involved is enamored with the concept, and then falls head over heels with the script that the concept spawns. So this is what I've come up with:

MEMORY LANE
In search of his fiance's killer, an orphaned war veteran routinely travels between this world and the afterlife... by stopping and starting his own heart.

You can watch the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhuxuX7SmHg

If you like then, feel free to check out the KickStarter page:

Thanks in advance for checkin out my work!

Best,
Shawn

Yeah, your life needs an undo button. But if anyone is curious about the camera besides my effects supervisor: Canon 7D with a kit lens.

LOL!!! Methinks "aj" is about to get banned.

Hey, Shawn, welcome to the forums. The "trailer" looks nice. If it's okay for me to add my two cents, I think you should just make the movie, fundraising be damned. Based on the trailer (and not knowing anything else, obviously), I think you can do this ultra-low-budget, and you've already shown the ability to make it look good.

Cheers!

Well, I'm not as enthused as the doppleganger.

However, there may be something there. Only your trailer seems to have two different movies mashed together without showing any clue as to why he would want to be killed and brought back (which I assume is the main plotline of this thing).

Also the end credit part throws a completely new and irrelevant tone, with dancing graphics and new music that have nothing to do with the rest of it.

The color looked pretty good, but I didn't get a sense of there being a decent movie there from all the jumbled up imagery. Maybe, but not necessarily.

Hey I like the trailer - professionally edited.

I especially love the stutter-audio edits.

However, I don't like the metal hits - they sound too low-fi and from some random 10$ SFX library. I'd go for bigger, higher quality Low Booms or Metal Hits or Stingers from something like the Liquid Cinema library or some higher-end Logic plug-ins/libraries.

Good job, though.

Edit: Check out these booms - lovely and dramatic and HUGE.

Edit 2: On a musical note, I think the static musical tone you have going on is way over-played up about :38. I'd switch to a string rising scale (like the ones in horror films) starting right at :38 when you see him in the bathtub after the stutter edit and up until the break to silence - this will make the silence more dramatic and make that scene in the tub way more impactful.

incredible. i hope you get to make it. crackerfunk has a good point, if you can make the trailer with $0, wouldnt it be worth a shot to do the whole movie for $0? or even if you can't do the entire thing for nothing, get as much finished as you can. that would probably help you fundraise to finish it. at least i think it woudl..

It's a bit too much like Flatliners to me. Sorry.

I think it looks pretty good. I do think the grading is a little intense...but I'd have to see more to judge accurately what style you're going for.

Good audio it seems.

I love the shot of the dude getting shocked in the bathtub. Nice production design and composition.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone, for the praise.
I didn't realize that I linked you guys to the one with our fundraiser tagged at the end. That's meant for the locals around my small town in Ohio... a sort of call to action.

All in all, it seems to have done exactly what I wanted it to do... which was achieve a professional look for free and give people the utmost confidence that we could make this movie happen for very little money.

Regardless of what happens with money, I begin shooting in January. Fundraising is just a way for me to do it easier... get my hands on better equipment... everything that I used to shoot the trailer fits into a cardboard moving box.

Thanks again for the kind words and inspiration. I'll keep everyone updated on our progress.
