This is the campaign to get Gordon Dahlquist's books, The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters: Volume One, The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters: Volume Two, The Dark Volume, and whatever future volumes of the this series are to come, made into an awesome movie or movie series.

Okay, so like, if you're wondering what the hell I'm going on about, then, sir/mame, you need to read said books right away! They're soooo awesome! So, if this pathetic exercise of fanboy silliness does nothing else but to encourage someone to check these books out, then... cool.

Okay, so... casting call wish list:
(an incomplete, unfinished, flexible list)

Director:

1) Me! Shut up, bitch, why the hell not?! I can dream.
2) The Hughs Brothers. Well, From Hell is one of my favorite movies. It's proof positive that these guys can direct a f---ing beautiful Victorian suspense/thriller period piece. Unfortunately, I'd have to guess they'd also not care to "repeat" themselves, which is wrongthink and a damn shame for everyone. So, we need other options.
3) Neil Jordon. Look at Interview with the Vampire. This man can direct dark, gorgeous period pieces. Look at The Brave One. This man can direct action and violence. Another beautiful choice.
4) Joss Whedan. I worship at the altar of Joss Whedan. This guy is a brilliant writer and director. He could definately do this material justice.... provided he agreed to do an R-rated film.... none of this sissy, cop out, PG-rated crap.

Celeste Temple:

1) Kate Beckinsale.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000295/

Because she's ridiculously gorgeous. Because she's an excellant actress. Because she's obviously excellant at dark, brooding, suspense/thrillers. Because she's quite convincing as a female character of action. And, she's already British. Okay, okay, so Miss Temple is actually a heiress from the West Indies, but it still fits. She'll have to curl her hair, though.

2) Michelle Monaghan.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm1157358/

Wow, this could be an excellant casting choice. See her in Mission Impossible 3 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

3) Anyone have any other ideas?

Cardinal Chang:

1) Hugh Jackman.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0413168/

The three protagonists in Dahlquist's books are actually quite young. Beckingsale, Jackman, and Nighy are all much older than the characters I would caste them as. But so what? You have to be flexible when adapting a book to a movie. Period. He's got the looks. He's got the charisma. He's got the athleticism of Chang. He's quite convincing as a killer (witness his turn as Wolverine). He's probably perfect for this role. As long as he doesn't mind the few scenes he'd have to wear the prosthetics showing his scarred eyes, etc.

2) Justin Timberlake.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0005493/

Yep, I thought of him almost immediately. He's proven his acting ability. See Black Snake Moan. He's physically fit like Chang. Put those dark glasses on him, and viola, Cardinal Chang! I think he could pull it off.

3) Anyone have any other ideas?

Doctor Abelard Svenson:

Damn, this is a tough one.

1) Bill Nighy.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0631490/

Again, Bill Nighy is much older than the character in the book. But, honestly, I could not help thinking of the Doctor as much older than his 38 or so years (in the book), anyway. But I f---ing love Bill Nighy. He has such a huge, compelling screen presence! He's just about perfect. The only thing is that all of Dahlquist's heroes prove to be very capable of, and in fact, must by necessity use a good deal of violence to survive and triumph over their enemies. Will we suspend our disbelief when Bill Nighy is kicking ass? I hope so. I think the fact that Svenson is a very reluctant, even if ultimately prolific, user of violence might help ammeliorate this issue.

2) Anyone have any other ideas?

Francis Xonck:

1) Tony Curran.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0192889/

I'm not sure. Actually, this is the only appropriate redhead I can think of. But, I think he just might be the perfect choice... especially opposite Jackman.

Comte d'Orkancz:

Okay, this a tough one.

1) Vince Vaughn. Yep. Well, as I write this, I'm trying to soldier myself through Into the Wild. One thing positive I'm sure I can take from that screening is that Vince Vaughn really does have great screen presence. He is under used. What I'm sure of is that Vince Vaughn has great potential. If I was a director or producer, I would want to use him somehow and find the right vehicle for him because --pow, fireworks if you get it right! Is he right for the Comte? I'm not sure. But, the Comte is supposed to be a large, intimidating man. Vince seems to be large enough. I'm quite sure he could be quite an intimidating villain. Is he right for this part, though? Maybe. Minus his signature cheekiness, could Vaughn bring the necessary gravitas to the role? Maybe. I think I'd like to put it to the test, if I was the casting director.

2) Anyone have any other ideas?

Eloise Dujong:

1) Mary-Louise Parker.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0000571/

2) Anyone have any other ideas?

Contessa di Lacquer-Sforza:

Oh Jeesh, this is probably the most difficult casting choice because it's so very important to have a good, solid villain. Actually, the obvious choice is probably Angelina Jolie. As written in the books, the Contessa is one part ultimate Playboy Bunny who makes men tremble and drool and pop instant... well, you get the idea, one part machiavellian power politician, and one part... well, Satan, I suppose. Let's think about this one.

1) Angelina Jolie.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0001401/

2) Catherine Keener.

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0001416/

A very attractive actress who definately possesses the requisite screen presence and gravitas for the role. She's a beauty and I would have no trouble believing her to be both a diabolically intelligent as well as a tough, cold blooded killer.

3) Let's hear some more ideas!

So, does anyone else find IMDb's slow download times to be an excruciatingly harsh pain in the ass? Unbelievable. Bastards should fix that. How many minutes of my life were wasted while I waited for my PC to become responsive again while an IMDb page loaded? It takes about five minutes to move from one page to another on that damn site. A pox upon IMDb. Oh, for Christ's sake, is there a more user friendly alternative to IMDb?

More Casting Ideas!

A perhaps less conventional choice for Chang-----> Vincent Cassel

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0001993/

Could be cooooool.

Ooo ooo ooooooooo! How about Claire Foy as Celeste Temple?!

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/littledorrit/index.html

Sweet. Oh my god, she might be almost perfect?

It's fun casting movies!

And...

How absurdly foolish of me not to check and see if the books had an official website to which I could link you fine people to!
