The difference between filming in cameras

If you film an hour long film...no actors...just filming around you (editing and adding sound later) what are the benefits to filming in a higher priced camera such as a Canon xh a1 (about 3g's) vs. a Canon hf10 or 100 priced around a grand?

I guess what I am asking is - do I need a higher priced camera for what I have in mind? Is is possible to make a decent movie using something such as an hf10? It's pro's to me are that it has lens attachments such as a wide angle...uses an sd card as opposed to tape. Downside is that the battery life is short...I am still trying to figure out if it is a camera I could edit easily with.

What is a selling point to something like a xha1?
