cinematography taking the plunge into camera madness

I don't have the funds at the moment for this rig

NIKON D3100 ~ Camera Body + 2 lenses = $750.00

but I've been crunching the numbers for fun.

Does anyone have an outright objection/aversion to this kit versus something else for under $800? It seems like it would do the trick for my needs. Maybe that's the best criteria. If you own one, are you pleased with its performance and image quality? Ease of use? Can it make espresso? :P

Thanks.

Yikes. OK, thanks for the heads up. Had my rose colored glasses on.

Is anyone releasing a "regular" video camera that combines the DSLR quality, interchangeable lenses, and with great audio (XLR) capabilities? Just curious.

There aren't very many camcorders with interchangeable lens and none (within the DSLR sort of price range) with XLR inputs.

Your best bet down that alleyway is probably the Sony NEX-VG10.

T2is will continue to get cheaper.

I myself am saving up for a kit myself, Let me know what you end up with!

Right now I'm probably going to buy a T3i, I think. The lead cameraman of the last film crew I supervised the sound on told me to get that or the 60d. He said I would miss the articulating screen with the T2i.

OK, Nick. Seems like it wouldn't be so impossible, right? I mean take the DSLR technology and meld it with a Zune H4. Done!

ROC, I was at Target and was looking at the t2i kit which has a 14-55mm lens and was like $799. That seems like a great deal. I guess the additional zoom lens on the D3100 is what I was getting excited about.

People here seem to be liking the Rebel and the images, from what I've seen, hold up.

I will let you know what I get when I get it which will be later than sooner got it? ;)
