format Specific "Dream" Formatting Question

Hi everyone!
My first post on the forum, so I'm excited to have found this cool indie forum!

Anyhow, I'm trying to understand how you would format a specific kind of "Dream" sequence.
I've found plenty online about the general way, but here is my scenario:

I have two actors on the phone with each other, for which I've already established their locations, and then used an INTERCUT PHONE CONVERSATION.

What I'm trying to do is have one of the actor's "imagining" or "daydreaming" the conversation going a lot differently than it's really going. He then, "snaps back" to the real conversation.

The scene I'm imagining is much like the end of "Dumb and Dumber" when Lloyd daydreams he is killing Mary Swanson's husband, and then snaps back to real life -- all of it taking place at exactly the same place and moment in time as the real scene.

All of the dream sequence formatting I could find online established locations and took place at different times.

So, how do you format something that's taking place at the exact same time in the exact same scene, only it isn't real?

Sorry if I've been overly wordy with this. Just really couldn't find anything specific to this scenario with google. I even found the Dumb and Dumber script online, but that particular scene seems to be missing in the spec script that's available to read.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Check out the screenplay to Superbad. Awful film, but it does contan just the kind of sequence you're talking about. It just flags the alternative sequence scenes as "(Fantasy)":

INT. SHOPWELL’S - CONTINUOUS
Seth enters the store, looking determined. He spots a
SECURITY GUARD standing by one of the registers.
SETH
(to himself)
Hope piggy can run.
He walks past the registers, which brings him in front of the
long liquor aisle. He surveys the scene. There is an OLD
WOMAN browsing the shelves. Seth looks over to the registers.

INT. SHOPWELL’S (FANTASY) - EVENING
Seth is at the cash register. He has a huge amount of booze
in the conveyor belt.
CASHIER
How old are you?
SETH
Twenty two.
CASHIER
You certainly are. That’ll be eighty
dollars.
Seth hands the cashier a big EIGHTY DOLLAR BILL.
SETH
Thank you kindly.
CASHIER
You’re welcome, Seth.

INT. SHOPWELL’S - CONTINUOUS
Seth, still standing in front of the liquor aisle, shakes his
head. He eyeballs the old lady.

INT. SHOPWELL’S (FANTASY) - EVENING
The old lady is browsing. She drops her big purse. A hand
reaches down and picks it up. It’s Seth.
SETH
Excuse me, ma’am. You dropped your purse.
Would you like me to help you to your
car?
OLD LADY
That would be lovely, young man. Would
you like me to buy you alcohol?
SETH
That would be lovely!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
@Maz -
So, using the Superbad example, would it be correct to establish the scene again, only this time using the (FANTASY) flag?

Quick and cheesy example:

INTERCUT PHONE CONVERSATION - INT. ROOM / EXT. GARDEN
ACTOR A
Hi, is Actor B there?
ACTOR B
Speaking.

INTERCUT PHONE CONVERSATION - INT. ROOM / EXT. GARDEN - (FANTASY)
ACTOR A
I'm in love with you
ACTOR B
Hooray!

(End Fantasy)

INTERCUT PHONE CONVERSATION - INT. ROOM / EXT. GARDEN - CONTINUOUS
ACTOR B
Hello, are you there?
ACTOR A
Um, wrong number. Bye.

Does that look right, or am I not quite getting it?
Thanks!
