Sony HVR-V1P HDV Camera

Hi all,
I have the opportunity of buying the v1p at a very reasonable price. My only concern is that it records
on HDV tape rather than a SD card.
I am new to the camera world...
I would like to know just how difficult it is to upload HDV to my laptop... Will I need further equipment?
