short films

Hey everybody, quick question.

If you get a short film accepted to a big fest, what exactly are the benefits? I've heard that it doesn't really matter, that short film directors are treated as "second class citizens" at the bigger ones, and stuff like that...

Is it mostly to meet people/have some concrete award to your name? I guess that might help get people involved in your next project and possibly get funding?

Well, imagine you are about to write a big check to someone to remodel your house and they say "Well, I've never actually remodeled a house before, but trust me I know I can do it."

It serves the dual purpose if giving you an opportunity to make films and learn from that experience, without a huge financial risk, as well as demonstrating to future actors, crew members, investors, that you actually have some idea of what you're doing.

I have been treated pretty well at festivals, it varies depending on the fest. Treated as well as the directors of feature films.. eh, maybe not, but you have to start somewhere.
