Short film?

I am in the process of writing a real treatment for my movie. I thought about either making a short based on the treatment, or a fake trailer that looks like a big event movie.

The only scene I have planed out that would make for a spectacular short, is the Scene where they raise
the britannic. You can buy museum quality kits of the TITANIC at 1:350 and some less detailed stuff for the underwater stuff. (water distorts details anyway,)

Since the Britannic was the sister ship of the titanic, all i have to do is add some extra details specific to the ship, and there are so many kits of navy ships like destroyers and whatnot that can double as the salvage fleet.

I'd budget it at around 10K for crowdfunding....

That way not only do I get directing experience, I can also get some VFX experience and then also have the
most important sequence pre-shot, and then I can use that as a demo for a second campaign to make the feature or shop it around to some indie studio like the asylum or the company that did age of dragons or something. Just not brain damage, just no.

I wouldnt want to get involved with a big studio because It would become a silly overlong mess with uneeded action sequences and overrated actors who play the same character in every movie (herself/himself) you KNOW who they are!

The movie itself started off as a Fan-film remake of raise the titanic, for you tube but I retooled it, changed all of the plot elements, changed the ship to the britannic. and characters so that i wouldn't get sued by the filmakers or the writer of the novel too. Decided I could make an original Low buget genre movie with a retro feel...

Admit it, you liked half the B thrillers they made in the 80's that you were told by movie critics to hate...

Okay. So what's your question?

Again, you should be working on development and pre-production. Stop talking about how you are going to shoot the film, and how you are going to do the FX.

1. Development (developing the idea and the project)

2. Pre-production (planning, storyboarding, writing the script, planning a shooting schedule)

3. Production (the actual video production and gathering of sound and images)

4. Post-production (editing the video, adding the audio, creating titles, effects, finishing)

5. Distribution (showing it to an audience, local, global and all points in between)

I'm confused... what's your question?

Since the Britannic was the sister ship of the titanic, all i have to do is add some extra details specific to the ship, and there are so many kits of navy ships like destroyers and whatnot that can double as the salvage fleet.

Just curious, what's your question?

From the looks of it, you haven't made anything. Don't jump into crow-funding and sinking ships right away. That's like throwing someone who can't swim into the deep end.

That way not only do I get directing experience, I can also get some VFX experience and then also have the most important sequence pre-shot, and then I can use that as a demo for a second campaign to make the feature or shop it around to some indie studio like the asylum or the company that did age of dragons or something. Do you think you might be thinking ahead a little bit? Shouldn't you get a solid idea down first?

I wouldnt want to get involved with a big studio because It would become a silly overlong mess with uneeded action sequences and overrated actors who play the same character in every movie (herself/himself) you KNOW who they are!

You're thinking a bit too far ahead.

So you're making a fan film of the Titanic, but changing the name to the Britannic and a few plot elements? I don't know if studios are going to pick that up.

Admit it, you liked half the B thrillers they made in the 80's that you were told by movie critics to hate...

No.

Wait a minute, you never asked a question.

What was the point of this thread?

And as I said in a previous thread of yours: crowd funding is not an easy way to raise money - unless you're famous and/or have wealthy family and friends. Your threads repeatedly show eagerness (which is great) but also a major lack of practical experience and disconnect from the reality of funding movies and making them.

I'd spend more time reading articles here on IT (and learning from others), and working on writing a killer script (be it a short or feature).

And as I said previously (in other threads of yours) I would aim much lower for my first movie project. A raise the britannic short will be too difficult for a novice. You need lots of experience first prior to tackling such a project. I have told you this before. I guess you're simply going to ignore the advice here - is there any point in me trying to advise you? I guess not - I have tried a few times already.

Don't try to crowd-fund this. You need to be able to deliver on your word when you take somebodies money, i.e. you need to be able to deliver a great short film (not a fake trailer). Without any experience, you can't guarantee that. You'd basically be asking people to fund you while you practice your filmmaking.

Why not just buy the ship, chuck it in the bath and shoot it? See how that works out?

Oh, and...
