editing Sanken COS-11 Lapel

Does anyone have any experience with this microphone?

I own one for doing ADR, and recently I did a session where the ADR Supervisor said this mic will most likely be the one to be used in the film.

I cannot for the life of me get it to sound good. If this is the mic that will be used, I want it to sound good naturally.

I usually place it on the person's shirt about 6 inches under his chin - but it sounds so muffly to me because it's under his chin...

I've tried placing it on a stand like I have seen in other ADR stages but that doesn't sound good to me.

Thanks -

ALCOVE WHERE ARE YOU?!?!

I'm working, what do you think?:D

If you are going to do ADR on the whole scene it doesn't matter what you use. If you are doing lines or words find a mic that sounds close to the way the Sanken does under optimum conditions and then EQ to match; you should at least be able to get a little more presence and "sparkle."

If you need to placate a director or producer put up the Sanken and a few other mics and let them pick.

P.S. 96.37% of the time I HATE lavs; they often sound dull, the voices come off axis too easily and the clothing rustle is a real PITA to edit out/suppress. I love lavs when they are of great quality (B-6, etc.) and are hidden by a pro sound team in conjunction with the wardrobe and/or hair folks, but that is very rare at my budget level.

Woohoo - thanks.

Yeah... I was afraid of being right. I HATE lavs. Even when it's in my studio it sucks and I don't know what to do.

Yeah I tried my hardest to convince that my MK41 is a much better choice but...

Oh well, can't win them all!

Thanks for the reply.
