editing Rough Cut Clips

Here are 4 clips from the rough cut of I, Creator 2: Goddess Of The Hunt.

Some clips are more finished than others. Audio needs work. So do some of the special effects.

Any suggestions to clip 3 to make the telepathic link to Artemis look better?

Any suggestions for any of the other clips?

Thanks.

Clip 2 -- Bad Mouthing Roberta

Clip 3 -- Rescue Me

Clip 4 -- Wrath Of Goddess

Password for all clips is: mdmpllc

The clips cannot be embedded or downloaded.

The audio in some scenes will be cleaned up when I complete the rough cut assembly and spend time fine tuning the scenes.

The special effects are a work in progress.

Well, the video and audio are definitely a marked improvement over the first movie. So, big ups on that. Some quick honest critiques:

Clip 1 -- Is that shot of the brain just a quick mock-up? It looks rather cartoony.

Clip 2 -- The action is confusing, with the silver demon thing. The first clip of the demon running towards them is way too brief. Also, the space they're in hasn't been defined, so it's impossible to know where exactly the demon is. Do you have a shot, or can you do a re-shoot, to get perhaps an over-the-shoulder, from the girls' perspective, to show the demon running at them? Or, maybe a wide shot?

Also, the weird sparkly look of those shots is confusing. What is that? Is that the perspective of the cyborgs? It's totally not needed, at least for these two shots. And, finally, the 2nd shot, of the silver demon dying, is also way too brief.

Clip 3 -- For the psychic link, I don't think you need anything more than the audio of the girl talking to her (especially if you have echo or chorus on it), coupled with some sort of facial reaction, or bodily gesture from Artemis, that shows she can hear it.

Later on in that clip, what's up with that slo-mo shot? It's not working. Just have her blast him in the face. Also, the shot that shows her blasting him, then the camera pans to reveal more demon hunters coming their way -- that blast happens way too early. I would cut that shot, drastically, move the blast much farther into the shot, so that it's an almost immediate thing -- blast, then immediately pan to see additional demons.

Clip 4 -- The visual effects aren't working. Perhaps just sound effects would be more effective. Even better yet, do you have a shot of Artemis doing some kind of Darth-Vader-ish force-strangle kind of maneuver? If not, can you re-shoot a pickup?

You're moving in the right direction. Keep it up!

Thank you for the input.

To answer your questions:

Clip 1 -- the brain of Andromeda is conceputal art of the artist why designed the look of Andromeda for the production. That is a place holder to show a 3D artist later to replace with a 3D animation of Andromeda. Funds are just short right now until my tax refund next year.

Clip 2 -- Is the first glimpse of the new Robo Vision in the production. Angela spots a Silver Demon Hunter off camera as she is talking to Summer and shoots and kills him. The SDHs are all over the woods hunting humans. The Robo Vision is used throughout the production for the cyborgs POV shots. The sparkly stuff is digital information flashing over the lens of the cyborg eyes. The movement of Angela's eyes as she looks off camera defines where off camera she sees him. I thought the actress pulled that off very well. Look at how fast she turns her eyes and head as she spots the SDH off camera.

Clip 3 -- The speed effects are for cinamatic effects for action you see in TV shows. On TV, action is slowed up for artistic expression. It was done on Kung Fu for a more artistic and less realistic look to avoid criticism by antiviolent groups. So, lose the visuals to the psychic link?

Clip 4 -- No shots of Artemis doing a Darth Vadar death thing. That is the best shot we have. Earlier edits don't have visual effects on Summer suffering the wrath of Artemis. One of my crew guys though it is better to have thrm. I can remove them.

Thank you for your input.

When I complete the rough cut later this year, I expect to show it to one of many editors I know in the area who works in a postproduction house for input as well. That is why I'm looking for input now.

For clip 3, is there a more artistic way of showing the psychic connection, or should I do away with it? Maybe just get rid of the sepia bubble and remove the sepia from the beginning wher it foreshadows the danger and shows the soldiers prayers for help and Artemis hears her cries in the next scene?

For clip 4, what if I were to show the fire spreading all over the cyborg rather than just bursting out of sections where she believes she is feeling extreme pain?

I removed the visuals in clip 4 because what is really happening is Artemis is attacking every pain receptor in Summer's cloned Human brain.

There is now an Earth tremor when Summer hits the ground because the cyborgs are very heavy.

I'm just using sound effects and music for the scene now.

Clip 2 the Robo Vision will reveal itself better as the whole production unfolds and viewers see it throughout the film. It takes on a more ditital look when the cyborgs see through spectrums of light beyond visible light, such as their Thermal Scan vision.
