rode video mic with zoom h4n

what do i do when i use a rode video mic with a zoom h4n

do i just attach it and press record?



i have a boom pole for my video mic btw

You can plug the VM into the minipin input of the H4n, or you can use something like this:

And you can plug into the XLR input.

Not one that 98% of you would notice. Of course, you need the proper convertor and you need to attach it correctly.

With the VM just use the minipin input.

Not a good idea, Harmonica; stick to what you know. The Rode VM and VM Pro are meant to run off their own internal battery. They are consumer fare and a much different beast than pro and semi-pro equipment.

Then you should have made it clear you were guessing, or not responded at all. Phantom power can fry microphones that aren't designed to use it.

The VM doesn't run on phantom power but 9v. No worries, I assumed that a mic used for this application would need phantom as well.

Then you should have made it clear you were guessing, or not responded at all. Phantom power can fry microphones that aren't designed to use it.

Your dynamic mics won't be affected, nor your ribbon if they are wired correctly.

To the OP, your mic is unbalanced and should be ran if using a boom pole with an xlr cable converted. Though I assume you are point and shoot since you are using the VM for your dialogue and in that case use on top of the camera, the line in is quieter than your h4n pres.
