Rode NTG-2 - Low levels into PC

Hi,

I recently bought a rode ntg-2 shotgun mic and was trying to hook it up to my pc. I used an xlr cable with a stereo 6.5mm (1/4'') jack, then a 3.5mm (1/8'') stereo adapter to plug into the pc. I also inserted a battery into the mic itself. The levels are ridiculously low when trying to record in audio in adobe audition or audacity. I think i may need a preamp.. would i be right in saying this?

Recording it straight into the PC is an odd idea.

use an external recorder or into the camera.

You need an impedance matching transformer. The NTG-2 is a low impedance unit, you need high impedance if you are plugging directly into the computer.

BTW, the NTG-2 has unusually low levels for a shotgun.

it wasn't going to be for a film just to record some guitar, vocals etc into adobe audition.
