Research for a college short film :)

Hey all!

I was wondering, do crime dramas/con shows interest you? Why do they?
If not, what else do you watch?

What's the "drama/con" part?

Otherwise, not very much.
Sure, I have a few crime dramas I do like, SEVEN and... uh... I can't think of any others I like off the top of my head.
(But I'm middle aged. My mind isn't... oh, wait. My memory has always been dodgy. Nevermind.)

Gotta use some reference material:

THE TOWN was good.
LAW ABIDING CITIZEN was fair (IMO)
ARMORED makes for a good study of what not to do.
If you can, watch Guy Ritchie's ROCKNROLLA back to back with his SNATCH and you can see how he swung from critics complaints about the latter being only an upgrade in tech without a change in the recipe from LOCK, STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS. (Maybe you gotta watch all three!)
SMOKING ACES was very good.
OCEANS THIRTEEN remake is good

Alright, I'll quit here.

Well, in case you haven't noticed, pretty much all of these so-called "crime" films are NOT about crime investigations per se so much as they're really about the crime committing - and they're frequently bordering on crime action to boot.
So...

Write and shoot accordingly I advise.

GL!

PS - I watched the indie film THE GUARD recently and was totally impressed.
Based on Brendan Gleeson's performance in that I also watched IN BRUGES, another criminal behavior story, and was not quite so impressed.

Hustle! The last two series felt a little stale in places, but as a whole it was consistently slick and imaginative, with some really nice creative flourishes (use of "bullet time" shots and breaking of the fourth wall).

TV: Bones, Monk, Psych, NCIS + LA, CSI + NY, Criminal Minds

I like the blend of drama and science as I'm a bit of a science geek (esp. in Bones, as I have a degree in Anth and have taken the Forensic Anthropology course -- and did well). Seeing the variety of applications of science in a forensic capacity is really cool and aligns with my mind well.
