Remove CMOS rolling shutter for free...awesome

I have started saving to get myself a DSLR , hopefully a 5Dmk2. I wanna be able to shoot some action scenes with the camera I buy. I was looking into buying After Effects just for the Foundry plugin to remove rolling shutter from my clips.
But turns out a little bit of search and google saves the day again.

After looking at the videos I think this is not as good as the Foundry tool but hey its free...YIPEEE...

Heres a simple 'How To' I found...

Install VirtualDub http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ and http://www.guthspot.se/video/deshaker.htm

Open your clip in VirtualDub and select "Filters". Add the Deshaker filter and in the settings set "rolling shutter" @ 70% (for mkII). Tweak Pass 1 like you want it to (just leave it if you dont know yet what to do there) and run "Run video analysis pass" from the File menu. Then go to the filter settings again, select Pass 2 and make your adjustments again.

Save File as avi.

If anybody tries this on some extreme footage , please do share...and sorry if this was posted earlier.(I am just too excited) :woohoo:

Yes it is. But there is a way to run it on Mac and Linux.

Through this free tool - http://www.winehq.org/
This is not an emulator, its just an API implementation of Windows.

I myself run Linux only and this works for me fine.

I know its a few more hoops to jump, but it gets you there for free and once you get used to it , its actually quite easy.

Thanks Will, that makes a lot of sense, I like the part with the bubble especially. I was too worried about this effect , now at least I know there are solutions out there.
