lighting Recomdations For Lighting A Greenscreen Set

Okay, we will be shooting greenscreen scenes over a period of days in June. I bought my greenscreen kit from B&H Photo. The kit comes with 2 soft box 250 Watt lights.

I have a 1K softbox light as well with a pot (dimmer) that has worked out well for lighting a greenscreen set before and the pot allows us to control the amount of shadow by the intensity of light.

I also have a 750 Watt softbox light advertised for greenscreen shooting I bought about 4 years ago.

We are going to be carrying so much equipment, I'd rather only bring what is necessary.

Can anyone recommend the type of lighting and how many lights would be best?

Well the best way to answer what you need to take is to test it first.

To get a good key the screen will need to be lit evenly, smooth with no shadows, a light green shade not dark green.

Finally light your talent separate and as far away from the screen as possible to reduse green spill onto the talent. Work out how to come close to this with what you got and you will know what to take.

Are you going to be filming the characters wearing shiny suits? If so, be VERY mindful of the spill. Keep them far away from the screen for sure.

And if you've got one of those still cameras that does color isolation, that could be a good way to double check that a little bit of green (that you may not see with your naked eye) isn't spilling onto the suits/actors.
