Quick Question About Short Films

hey so i'm a 20year old director looking to make a few short films soon. & i'm not really experienced with the PR & distributions side of filmmaking. My question is, what is the situation with Short Films and distribution? Do they actually get bought or is that really only for Features? Sorry if it's a dumb question btw lol

The rule of thumb is that you don't make short films for money. There are technically a couple companies that distribute short films, but they're the exception to the rule, and even then, you won't be getting paid much if anything.

Most filmmakers make shorts to hone their craft and get out into the festival circuit where they can network and (possibly) get on someone's radar. Also, it's fun.

Short films are for practice, or fun. You won't be making money off em, except ad revenue online if you release them that way, which won't be much unless you become a huge internet success.

It's possible to make a bunch in a certain category or theme and sell them altogether on DVD as a compilation, or an "Anthology"
