Quick DIY project - portable diffuse lighting!

Inspiration struck yesterday, so I decided to make a quick DIY project to help diffuse the oft-harsh light that the sun causes.

The idea is to make it portable, so much so that I can hold the diffuser out with one hand, hold the camera in the other (pressed against my body), and move with both of them. You can see the first test below:

I have two light metal poles that I found laying around (possibly for painting) joined together with a hinge, and light cloth spread in between. Inside the hinge I epoxy'd a spring to keep an outward force on it while still allowing me to fold it up when not in use.

Then I cut out the cloth and attached it with zip-ties. Finally, I clamped a couple of paint stirring sticks to the poles to use as a handle (the hinge part rests on my forearm).

And that's it! I can maneuver the diffuser with one hand and the camera with the other. If anyone likes the idea or has any suggestions for improvement, let me know!
