Promoting A Production

This is difficult for an unknown production with unknown talent.

As I see it, television is faced with the same challenge. But, they do have bigger budgets to spend on promotion.

I'm considering getting my cast to do spots like this for the next production:

This way, the cast and the production gets out there on video sharing sites.

These are from a TV series from 1967.... and they are hopelessly out of date in terms of style and delivery. They have great comedic value because they are horrible and dated.

Is that what you are going for?

Yes, the studios have more money for promotion....

The more modernized version of these is like the promo's on E! and even at movie theaters in the pre-show entertainment when they talk about being on set for movies and TV series.

The principal is the same as your 1967 examples, but specifically for video sharing sites as you described, and slightly more "current" in terms of style.

Unless you were going for pure camp style.

Thanks for the examples.

Howver, they are BTS. I'm looking for on set commercials that the cast will make to introduce themselves and the production. That's what they were doing with the Champions. It's a different approach from a trailer.

good grief

Neither of my examples are trailers.

Your clips are fake behind the scenes clips where the actor is using a scripted set of lines to say who they are and something about their production. That's probably why I said they were hopelessly out of date unless you are going for a total camp value, and I asked a question if that was your intent. Is that your intent? That could be really funny and retro if you did.

These newer clips are "Behind the Scenes" aka BTS, but their intent is 100% marketing and promotion for the production. They are introducing themselves in the cast and crew for their production. I guess that wasn't clear for you? It was very plain to me that this was CLEARLY their intent with those new clips and the 1,000's like them.

It wasn't clear. The new stuff goes more BTS than the examples I showed.

You are right. I'm looking for marketing ideas.

I mentioned trailers because there are trailers in the like video column on youtube that were also made to promote the series as well as fan trailers.

In the current world of promotion, productions put together an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) that has video clips, trailers, Behind the Scenes, and press releases all on a disc for the media. They use that as the basis of their story and why most news reports use the exact same clips every time.

1) I agree with Sonnyboo (and the many peeps on this forum, and another, who've said the same) that camp would be a more pertinent approach for you and your projects, Mike. I honestly believe you are throwing away a golden opportunity to exploit the genre, and the only reason I can assume so, is you feel insulted when peeps consider it (your work) camp. I'd be honored to have such a tag.

2) Dear god Stuart Damon has gotten fat.

I'm planning the promootion for a new production to be shot next year.

The new production will have a different DP with lots more experience, a dedicated sound guy with a background in sound, a Special Forces / Military advisor who served in the Special Forces for a dozen years to train the cast in weapons,, tactics, and how to conduct a search and destory mission, and one stunt coorinator lined up. I'm working on a second stunt coordinator for the cyborgs. The new script is already in its 4th revision and may need a few more. Some of the conceptual art is already done. The big thing was getting the spaceship done for a model builder to work from to builld it. The guy who designed it will help out with the 3D animation and graphic design for the movie in post. We will use an actual model of the ship to land on the set with forced perspective shots and 3D animation for other scenes.

We have a new look for futuristic Amazons and a re-image of a futuristic Artemis, as well as a new version of her traditional look with strong ties to her likeness in statues and paintings. One person was not impressed. But, others are. When people think of Amazons, they think of them with swords, shields, spears, bows and arrows. Our re-image is new and original with green and brown army fatigues with rank stripes, country flagss, laser rifles, amno belts, and com-links.

So, I'm looking at stuff we can film on set for promotion on youtube.com for this new production now. Thinking about it after the shoot is usually too late.

How campy the new production will be remains to be seen until we get some footage together.
