Please Help!! need info

ok heres my problem I applied for a job from this film production team and they are filming a movie soon but they want me to be a part of the camera crew and ive only been in college for 2 semesters so i know nothing about the cameras they use.... he asked if i could use a red rock camera which i said no i have no experience with one but then he asked what should he put me in.... the PA crew or the AC crew which i have no idea what either of those are... i tried googling it but no luck.... considering i have no clue what im looking for.... but if someone could please explain what these are and the difference between them... then ill try going to my school to see if i can rent one out and just shoot some stuff to get a little experience before i tell this guy that i should be in the PA crew or other way around. i want to know what the hell im doing before i make a complete ass out of myself... please help!!!!

PA...is a production assistant...doing odd jobs helping people out...locking up set..keeping people informed as to what is going on...calling out rolls and cuts...may be asked to pick things up off set...stuff like that...not a part of the shooting crew...but there are Camera PA's that are hired(usually for no pay) just to help out the camera crew...this would be something you should look into as it seems you have very little experience working with cameras...

AC...is a camera assistant...he/she has knowlege of the camera they are using and know how it works...you might be loading, slateing, kepping reports, handing off lenses....stuff like that...maybe even working the Zoom in the shot if the Operator and Focus Puller have thier hands full in that shot...

the RED camera is really no different than any other Digital camera...its just knowing where all the switches and menus are...its a good camera to learn as it is becomming a leader in it field and if they keep moving in the right direction with it, it will become a standard that just might replace film...i will miss film when that day comes :( right now the biggest drawback of that camera is that it overheats and shuts down...which will cost hours of not shooting if there is not a backup Red around.

hope this is of some help to you...
