Organ Mountain Film Festival

I've been asked to help promote our local annual film festival here in Las Cruces, New Mexico. It's called the Organ Mountain Film Festival hosted by the Rio Grande Filmmakers Association of which, I am a part of.

This is its 3rd year running and the last year it will be called the Organ Mountain Film Festival. 501(c)(3) paperwork is just about complete so next year it will be renamed:

The Rio Grande Film Festival

Anyway, last year they had over 150 entries from all over the U.S. Fees are pretty reasonable. $10 for student entries (high school and below). $15 for college and adult entries.

Last year they had cash prizes as well as other stuff. The site is currently undergoing renovation but they tell me that there will again be cash prizes. Apparently, they are soliciting software manufacturers for prize donations...

If anyone is interested:

The Organ Mountain Film Festival

Thanks for reading...

It said Digital Media is accepted, does that include .wmv? If so I will send Random Acts off in the morning.

I believe the entry screeners have to be sent on VHS Cassette. At least that's what I read on their entry form at the web site.

Then winning entries get selected. According to the entry form, you have 3 days to get them a digital version.

Hmmmm. Seems like 3 days isn't long enough to get your digital version to them if you have to mail it...

Let me find out about that...

It would be nice to send the DVD (I assume that DVD will be accepted as a digital version) just once. In other words, it would be nice if you took DVD's for screener and exhibition.

When I eventually start my festival it'll be that way Chris.. you submit a DVD, and if it's accepted, HEY we already have it.. woohoo

I agree and I will forward that on to the festival people... It's not my fest at all. I am in the organization that hosts it but I really have nothing to do with really... At least for now.

I thought that was interesting (No DVD for screening), I also noticed there was a typo in the last paragraph of the entry form.

I do know this is last year's entry form. I was about to upload it to their web site (I just finished building it for the organization) when I saw that it was last year's!

So I told the founder that she needed to modify it. By the time I got it, it was so early in the morning that I didn't proof read it...

Anyway, later today, I will be talking to her about DVD screeners. Everybody else uses them... It would make more sense and knock another step out of the system... Which is always good.

I got recruited into the organization about 4 months ago... Only been to 3 meetings.

Now we're going to go non-profit so we really need to have our shit together... I know they had a lot of entries last year and this year it's going to be bigger...

Anyway, I will be talking to the founder about all the above and get back here later today...

Thanks for the feedback. I really do appreciate it.

Well the entry form has been changed. Unfortunately, I see now that the entry fee has gone up to $25 instead of staying at $15.

At least they are taking DVDs now.

Wait a minute. It would only take three entries with the extra $10, then they could run down to Wally World and pick up a DVD player for $30.

I think they're trying to make money off this thing.
