Optical Flare?

Hi guys,

I had been watching a lot of videos lately as I'm kind of new to film making to... well to do some research I guess. I have dabbled in film making / effects before but not a lot. Anywho's, back to the point, I came across this guy called Vinny Minton who makes extreme sports type videos (Inline skating mostly) and as a transition he has used a sort of optical flare type thing that can be seen between 00:07 - 00:09 on this video:

I have tried and tried to recreate this effect as much as I can but I just cannot seem to get it right. I have mainly experimented with optical flares and sometime I get close but not close enough :(

Could anyone offer any tips?

Thanks

That is just a FILM TRANSITION, not technically an "optical flare". A LENS FLARE is when the light bounces around in the lens with that effect. OPTICAL FLARES is a plug in from VIDEOCOPILOT.NET to emulate lens flares. The FILM TRANSITION is emulating the way light changes the emulsion at the end of a roll of motion picture film when the shutter speed changes.

Sorry, it's called a FILM FLASH TRANSITION...I'll be more clear. When a real motion picture camera that takes celluloid film starts and stops, light exposes on the frames in the exact same way as that video's transitions do. It was always considered a mistake until someone started using it in music videos, and then movies and TV. Now it's a plug in. Same with the original lens flares. People used to go to a lot of effort to flag a lens flare to keep it from happening. Now it's a plug in too.
