editing Opensource Digital Video Asset Management for Doc production?

Hey there,

has anyone used a Digital (Video) Asset Management Software for organizing materials and footage for indie docs? Would be great if you could share your use case and how it worked out. I am evaluating the options right now and i am undecided if it will actually help the workflow or of it is overkill.
