Olympus E-PL1

Has anyone tried the Olympus E-PL1 for video? How good is it?
For stills seems like a great camera, just as good as a Canon t2i. But I guess video will be inferior.. and only 720p.

Anyway I'm just asking because I found as super cheap brand new Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm kit lens for just 193€ (250$) and I hate to miss this great deal.

Is it any good?

Hi gebo - The E-PL1 is a nice still camera, but 193€ is not really a great deal for a 720p video camera.

In France, you can get a used GH1 with the 14-42 for 250€

There is also a GH1 auction on ebay.de ending tomorrow where the bid is currently 100€.

Here is what this camera can do:

I would save a few more Euros and watch eBay for a used GH1 before spending almost 200€ on a 720p camera.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks for your input. I know the GH1, it's fantastic. I was wondering if I should get the Olypus even thought it's 720p because I love the stills and small size.

But I've been thinking about it and I'm probably going to save for a canon 600D...
If the GH1 was a better stills camera I would get it instead of the Canon.

Thanks again

Do you think the stills quality of the GH1 is comparable to the 600D/T3i?
I've been looking at sample photos for about 2 hours and the Canon seems to be slighty better but not a lot of difference really....

I would say that for video the GH1 is slighty better.
On the other hand for stills the Canon seems slighty better.

The GH1 is cheaper and I'm poor.

HEEEEEEEEEELPPPP!!! I'm about to lose my mind!!

:)))

gebo - As a former T2i owner and current GH1/2/3 owner, I agree with you 99%.

Having shot with the T2i, T4i, GH1 and GH2, in my view, the GH1 (especially the hacked GH1) is a much better video camera - and the Canon T3i is a slightly better still camera, and more expensive.

So you have to balance the video quality you need against the still quality you need - and measure the result against what you can afford.

I am primarily a video guy, so I decided in favor of the the Panasonics. Your decision may be different.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Thanks, you confirmed what I suspected and that was very helpful.
