NIN/cc licensing for festivals?

Creative Commons licensing for festivals?

Hi, not sure where to post this, it's legal and music related so... apologies if it's in the wrong section.

Some songs by Nine Inch Nails are Creative Commons licensed, which by my understanding means I can use them for pretty much whatever I want as long as it's not for profit as long as I credit them for it.

Could I use some of them in my feature film, just for festival use?

The license they come under is the 'attribution sharealike non commercial' one.

On premiumbeat.com, they have 3 types of license, the main ones being 'student/film festival' and 'commercial'. Does this mean a Film festival is non commercial?

I'm making my feature more as a showcase for what I can do rather than to make money from it. If in the event it did get picked up, I'd have to get licenses for the songs (or cut them) and I'm cool with that.

Cheers!

Depends on th Creative Commons licence. There are different ones, some do let you use it for profit. You'll have to look at what level it is. Festival is probably for profit... But that's just my opinion, might be better to wait for some more to answer
