Nikon P7000 good enough to make solid Films/Shorts?

I have a P7000 and wan't to test the waters of film by making some shorts and such, this is the only camera I have that does video and has a mic port(My Lumix LX3 does not, nor does my Pentax K20D and Nikon D40).

My question is will this be sufficient if I buy a mic and a fluid tripod? How much would I have to spend here to record steady film with decent sound pickup? I am a photographer and am sorta clueless when it comes to anything video...also whats the best/easiest software for editing and special effects?

Also would a ring like this work well it older Pentax Lenses?

Is this mic any good?
