New to the film world

Hey whats up guys, My name Jay and i'm brand spanking new to the film world and im looking to get into movie shorts and music videos for now, and i need a few suggestions as well as helpful tips and tricks .... After reviewing the type a videos that grab my attention i noticed im heavily attracted to high def videos that i dont have to turn up the quality dial on youtube as well as detail, wide angles , Sharpness in which hands down proves to be one of my major concerns along side Image quality and Smooth motion because i absolutely hate choppy videos lol. I researched a few pieces of glass for my Canon T3i that kinda fits what im looking for and what grabbed my attention was the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 ex dc os hsm, i absolutely fell in love with it when watching test videos via youtube and vimeo . Now i dont know if its my amateur eye or not so What do you guys think of that combination of dslr and glass for what im looking for ?? Do you have any other suggestions within that price range or in general ?? and how do i get the best quality/performance out of this camera and glass?? Please feel free to comment .. i NEED your help.

PS please speak in layman terms lol
