New Conan The Barbarian Adaptation

A new adaptation of Conan The Barbarian has received its first poster, along with a 3D motion version. IGN pointed out that the artwork is a nod to Frank Frazetta's original Conan artwork. New and original artwork attached. Link to 3D poster also included. What does everyone think?

On the one hand, I think, oh God, no, heheh; Arnold cannot be replaced!

On the other hand, I think, awesome. Can't get enough fantasy or sci-fi. Why not?

The truth is that a lot comes down to what kind of movie they're gonna make; as in, are they making a proper R-rated movie, or are they making a PG movie...presumably aimed at an audience aged starting at thirteen years. Oi. For example, when I heard that the first Alien vs. Predator movie was going to be PG-13, I "knew" right away not to even waste my time with it --an Alien movie with a PG rating?! Come on.

Actually, it might not be so bad if Conan got something like a 300 treatment.

When I see Conan illustrated in comic books by someone like Cary Nord...

...it makes me drool.

Oh man, it hardely gets any better than this, does it?

And I think, damn, somebody got to be making this ...stuff... into movies.

They took some care to get some Frazetta-esqueness in the 1982 film, too.

Anyone who loves this kinda stuff and who hasn't seen Painting with Fire, yet, ought to check it out. Painting with Fire really inspires me, for one, to think about making documentaries. I highly recommend watching the making of stuff on the dvd.

goobs, that's awesome.

As for the actual teaser for this new adaptation, I have a very scientific method to ascertain the extremely-high likelihood that this movie will blow. The teaser has the Movie Trailer Guy (always a bad sign) narrating text that can be seen on screen. Not good. Kids, do not get your hopes up; this movie will suck.

I think this new version will be for teenagers with a someking twisted story about love... i think this movie will suck... i hope to be wrong.

The new Conan looks to much like a metrosexual model and not a barbarian. 99% sure this movie is going to blow which is sad since Conan is one of my favorite fantasy characters.

I dont think im going to watch this. Perhaps when its on tv one day and i have absolutely nothing better to do.

On a related note, any announcements on the governators next project?

That's about right. Milius' original was perfectly cast and directed, imo (the sequel sucked hardcore, however).

One of the all-time great movie dialogue exchanges:

"The gods are pleased. They will watch the battle."

"Are they going to help?"

"No."

"Then tell them to stay out of the way."

I love Arnold Schwarzenegger's Conan the Barbarian.

Even though Frazetta painted those iconic book covers of Conan, of course we should feel no obligation to consider him The Authority on Conan. But, for what it's worth, we are told in Painting with Fire that Frazetta was disappointed by the casting of Schwarzenegger. His reasoning was that Conan should be like a wolf, a scrapper, not like a bear...or a big lug. I can't help thinking that Frazetta saw someone like himself as Conan.

Anyway, as awesome as the original film adaptation was, why not give others the chance to show us what they can do? Maybe something good will come of it.

I just saw that Jason Momao, who is the guy who plays Ronon on Stargate Atlantis, is the newest Conan. Hey, I like SG-Atlantis...a lot. I'll definately give it a chance, then. Agreed, the trailer is not so good. Hopefully they'll give us something better sometime down the road.

In any case, I encourage folks to give Momoa a chance.

Oh-my-God. Ron Perlman co-stars. What the hell else do you need?

He's adorable. Watch that and see if it ain't so.

I also looked this up. So he's an independent filmmaker too. Road to Paloma trailer:

Conan theatrical trailer came out last week. I'm liking Jason Momoa in the role, especially after watching him on Game of Thrones. And I think I like him better without the barbarian beard.

Also, did ya'll catch Rose McGowan in the trailer? Awesome makeup job! Same with Stephen Lang actually. I didn't recognize either of them at first.

I turned down the opportunity to go to the European Premiere of this at Empire Big Screen. You know why? Because it looks terrible!

Well, yeah, but it's a barbarian movie, what did you expect ;) Bottom of the fantasy barrel, but I usually enjoy them, having grown up with the "classics" of the genre (Conan, of course, Deathstalker, Beastmaster, etc). I am disappointed that they opted for reboot rather than the King Conan storyline that they were considering before Arnold got into politics.

I'm looking forward to it, myself. Probably wait until it hits dvd though (girlfriend STILL gives me a hard time for dragging her to Pathfinder, which admitedly was pretty bad, but I had fun). When it comes down to it, I'm really just a huge fantasy geek with a high tolerance for bad movies :-D

On a related note, what the hell ever happened to the Solomon Kane movie? I really wanted to see that and it hasn't hit stateside, theater or dvd. Annoying.
