Needs some Tips

Hey all,

Glad I finally found an active Film makers community. Hopefully I'll fit in quite well and use it more often.
For now though, I need some more experienced amateur film makers to give me some constructive criticism on a few things I have done.

This first one is a short clip me and one other mate made late at night one weekend a few weeks ago. All up it took about 3 hours including editing and filming. So, not much time or effort went into it and we had a lack of gear (Lights as you will soon tell)

This second one is an effects test I made last night before bed.

Any tips or tricks I could use in making any one of these two better would be awesome, thank you! :)

First thing I'll say is that three hours is WAYY too less for any project. I honestly think you should go to slower and plan a bit more beforehand (script, shots, etc)

Having said that (and seen the first video), I think once you get lighting, a good mic, and a proper story, this can be something good. I'm just crazy about plot, even if its just youtube.

By the way, the muzzle flash in the second video looks pretty damn good.

Hey, thank you for your comments!
Yeah, I do agree with you. It was WAY to short of time for anything. The next one we make (This weekend) should take us 3 / 4 days in total. As it is a very short clip anyway.

Yeah, we aren't going for a full on serious plot as we aren't very serious people. We plan on using these charters a couple more times all in some weird comic feel.

I use a RODE NTG-2 Shotgun mic. I thought it was quite a good mic, but do you have any other suggestions?
