Mountains of Madness Kaput. :(

And there was much beating of breasts and gnashing of teeth among the fanboys. Talk about a dream project for SciFi and monster movie lovers. Del Toro and Cameron. Cruise as the lead. There wasn't one in the book, but throw in a hot chick for a love interest and voila! What the hell else do ya need?

But then reality stepped in and it bi-ted.

[EDIT]: Well, I guess it's not exactly kaput. But I want Toro, Cameon, and Cruise making it, galdurnit! Oh well, on the other hand, it says that it gives some indie filmmakers the chance.

I would like to see it get made, but had REALLY low expectations for it (expected it to totally suck) because of that f'ing talentless hack cameron being involved with it.

Cameron has all the money ever, so that he wanted to back del Toro's dream project seemed beyond wonderful to me!

I feel so bad for del Toro. He was asked to direct the last Harry Potter movie, but turned it down to do the Hobbit. Then when he had to pull out of that, Cameron offered to back "At the Mountains...", one of the films he's always dreamed of making. And then that fell apart, becausae the studio balked on greenlight an R rated horror movie? That seems more like an excuse than a reason.

With his recent luck, you'd think del Toro is turning into Terry Gilliam!

As a Lovecraftian, I had hopes for this. So, if I understand this right, the studios DONT want this film to be R rated? Odd.

Perhaps it just wasn't meant to be for Del Toro. This WOULD have been one of the few movies I would have gone to theatres for-but now, IF it ever gets done-just one of many DVD's waits for me.
