Microphones for a Sony a290?

Microphones for DSLRs

I'm thinking about buying a Sony a290 to start my film making.. "career", so to say. Picking the camera wasn't the problem, it's the mic. For lack of better words, I'm basically an infantile retard when it comes to microphones.

I'm not looking for anything too crazy, the simpler the better.
I haven't even filmed a single thing, but I want to do it right so I don't need anything professional (or expensive haha :))

Kind of a contradiction there. If you want to "do it right" you have to "think professional" which means a decent mic with a boom-pole, shock-mount and separate recorder, which will set you back more than the camera.

Check out the Rode VideoMic Pro. It's aimed specifically at the DSLR market. Preliminary reports show that it's sturdier than it's older brother, which was on the flimsy side.

I'm not sure what they're called, but aren't there microphones that you attach directly on the camera? or are those only for camcorders, not DSLRs?

This mic attaches directly to the camera, runs on battery and has a 20% higher input gain than the original VideoMic

Oh, my bad, I only looked up the "VideoMic Pro" and Google gave me something completely different than when I searched "Rode VideoMic Pro". You can tell I know my stuff when it comes to microphones haha. Thanks for your help! :D
