Matrox RTx100 Pro

I happened by one that was never used (freebie - still in original packaging and sealed static bag), and Matrox had updated software for the Adobe Production Studio (PP 2.0, AE 7.0, etc.) that I am currently using. I have it installed and it appears to be running fine.

My only concern is that it uses a proprietary codec. That, and it only supports 2 channel audio (okay for my immediate needs). Initial quality tests look fine. And it's billed as a professional solution (originally costing between $1K and $1.5K). Granted, it's about 5 years old, but it appears Matrox is still supporting it given the updated software. I like the fact that I can supposedly plug it into a standard def TV for WYSIWYG display during editing and preview.

I will need something different when I make the switch to HD and 5.1 audio, but for now it looks interesting on paper.

Anyone ever use it? Thoughts? Horror stories?

Thanks.

RTX100 and RTX2

Hello V.P.Turner,

It is by chance that I happened to read your post, which I felt an invitation to reply back to you...
Welcome to Matrox, we are very pleased to hear the RTX100 is running fine in your system ! Indeed Matrox still has much pride with the performance of the RTX100, considered a "pioneer product" and a complete video solution which was developed in the Pentium era.

To more accurately address increased demand for HD editing, alongside an extremely fast-paced industry of technology, the RTX100 was declared a legacy product and replaced by the "RTX2 Family" . Eventually, when you do consider your move towards HD, you may find the following links of interest, as they lead to pages describing the capabilities of the RTX2 family of products:

Focusing on your actual point of interest however, we are pleased to confirm that the RTX100 is still supported, and herewith, if ever required, are the means to obtain assistance and information:

We hope you will receive participation in this forum from other RTX100 users to assist in completing an unbiased opinion, and we sincerely hope you will consider Matrox Userforums for any questions or issues you may have. Please feel very welcome to contact us here :

Wow. I never expected to hear from Matrox themselves here, but what an excellent show of support.

ACPI support would be nice, but I understand considering it's legacy hardware. And the audio volume with the passthrough is a bit low. Other than that, I've been playing with the different effects plug-ins, and some will be quite useful.

Thanks again for the reply, MCC.

Hello Again Vince,

We are grateful for your appreciation of our "support" on this userforum. To obtain Technical Support on the legacy RTX100, you may register the serial number (found on Break-out-Box/white sticker) of the RTX100 here: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/register/ This process will generate a username and password, which will enable you to post any technical queries in the Support section of our Userforum here: http://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/rtx100/forum/

In relation to ACPI support, if this product feature requirement is related to putting the computer into hibernation/sleep mode with the RTX100 card, we regret to advise that, as at the latest driver update (version 2.0 Adobe Premiere Pro), this capability had not been integrated. The RTX100 did not support Power Management, and it would be recommended that if enabled, the Power Management schemes be disabled for better performance.

With regards to audio levels, perhaps this is an issue we can be of assistance with, we do look forward to hearing back from you in our forums. Please include additional information, for example a description of the audio source and workflow. In the meantime, a mixer/amplifier may be used to amplify the signal when levels are too low ?

Again, many thanks for your interest, wishing you further success with the RTX100, and please do not hesitate to contact us again, it will be a pleasure.
