Looking for an alike royalty free song

Hi guys,

I'm making a short documentary about an old woman who lives life to the fullest by staying happy.
As a transition where she tells about how it is getting old (with the hair getting grey etc.) she eventually smiles at the end, transitioning to a car driving over the camera in great speed and then filming her driving.

I edited my documentary using this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVjOa0_9-0Y
Which is a very funky, happy and fast song. However, I've tried to write to the distribution manager of Gramatik and ask for the price of the royalty for 36 seconds, but he didn't reply me.

I'm really sad to let go of the song, because it fits so perfectly, but I'd like to ask you if you know any royalty free songs that are alike that one? I've been looking for quite some time without luck.

You can see the transition here at 3:30 (I made the link hidden, because it isn't going to be published like that when I don't have the royalty of the song).

Thanks in advance!

It's easy to find a composer....even for a no-budget film. Post in the composers part of this forum, post on Craigslist as well. You might also want to think about joining something like Stage 32 and posting there as well.

Just some thoughts. As a young director I think it would do you well to find a composer to collaborate with. Try it and see what happens. :)

Hi Asker,

I could knock you up 30 secs of similar music in no time at all. I have many years experience of alt music production and DnB/dub/breaks are some of my (relavent) specialities. Tbh i may even have something suitable already floating around here for you to use. Send me a pm if you're interested. :)

As you have already found out there are folks eager to work with you. Doing "soundalikes" is an integral part of the media industry, and many songwriters and composers are eager to stretch their talents as often as possible - you never know when you'll have to do it for a well budgeted indie project, or a commercial.

I know there are different types of licences people release their music under. There are two sites I know of where you can get music for free: http://freemusicarchive.org/ and http://bandcamp.com/

Not everything is free at bandcamp. Each album will say what kind of license it's released under and some will have specific stipulations, like "you must email me a copy of the finished project."

It will be harder to find music for a documentary you want to sell than one that is free.
